Qualities of a Good Entrepreneur

Entrepreneurship according to Wikipedia, is the act of being an entrepreneur, which is defined as "one who undertakes innovations, finance and business acumen in an effort to transform innovations into economic goods".

In this post, we'll be exploring some of the qualities that an entrepreneur must possess:

1. Must be a good time manager.
2. A self starter: able to conceptualize idea and put it into action; not waiting for someone to tell you what to do. It then means that you're a good worker.
3. Must be a good net worker.
4. Able to exercise patience: you're able to see your venture through the challenges
5. A risk taker: (calculated risks).
6. Must be able to create a good team/workforce.
7. Must be a good team player: cooperative; you're able to share your vision with your workforce to will get them energized to move with you
8. Understand the market niche for your product and services
9. Must have the right exposure.
10. Must be a good communicator.
11. Accept change: insanity is defined as repeating the same thing, in the same way expecting different results; if you want to move to the next level you must be ready to do things differently.
12. Learn from mistake: You'll get obstacles, bottlenecks, don't quit; learn from them.
13. Diversity: need to have some flexibility; don't stick with something that you feel is not working; know how and when to move on to something else
14. Confidence in your business and its success; if you cannot buy what you're selling, then you're not in business!
15. You must also be goal oriented, enduring, passionate, possess good planning skills and focused.

It's important to do a self assessment; do you think you have what it takes to make it as an entrepreneur? Of these qualities, which ones do you think you possess? Where do you think you might need improvement? Take time to think critically and write down the decisions you're making towards making these improvements. NOTE: IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO WRITE THEM DOWN. You can then embark on executing them, and do a review once in a while to rate your progress.

What Do You Live For?

”The greatness of a man is determined by the cause he lives for, and the price is ready to pay in order to achieve it, even if it means his own life.” This is a statement I heard many years ago while attending a conference by Dr. Celluro in Nairobi.
Allow me to ask you this question, what do you live for? Well, without a doubt, we have people who live for pleasure! Or for the money. And nothing beyond that. This would be the worst kind of life to live. The worst part of this kind of live, comes full force, when it ends! That's it. It's tragic.
There's definitely more to this life. And it is not meant to be lived for 'me'; the reason is because it doesn't belong to us. It belongs to the giver, who will require it of us. I believe in God. I have a big problem with someone who doesn't; simply because the evidence is all too obvious. He is the almighty, the creater of all. The giver of life. Any life that is not lived for Him, will be a disaster when it comes…

Accessing The Expanded Money Bag for African SMEs, Scaling Business Through Ecosystems

Wilmot Allen who is the director of East Africa at CrossBoundary was speaking during the first Entrepreneurs Forum session this year at the iHub. This is from a series of sessions on entrepreneurship facilitated by Prof Ndemo that came about as a result of one of his weekly articles in the Daily Nation. The topic this time was about accessing the expanded moneybag for African SMEs and scaling businesses through ecosystems.
He started by shedding some light on how investors view entrepreneurs as they develop their businesses. He explained that there are three profiles of entrepreneurs that have been successful in growing businesses all the way to accessing finances and scaling. These profiles are highlighted in this discourse.
The notably successful model for many is the approach where the entrepreneur will work for an organization for sometime before venturing out to create their own. It has benefits in that when one is working for either big or small enterprises, one is able to deve…
